Staffing: Mr Dorey (Head of Department), Mrs Shelmerdine, Mrs Lockey, Mr Andrews and Mrs Rashleigh (SSco)

Netball team

We are committed to the idea of ‘Sport for all’, irrespective of ability and background. Each pupil is given the maximum opportunity to improve on their skills, knowledge of sport and fitness. A broad, well balanced Physical Education is offered to all our pupils, and whilst we pursue the ideal of ‘being the best’ we never lose sight of the ethics of PE and sport.

We are a successful department. We compete in many inter school competitions in a wide range of sports.

Key Stage 3

In Key Stage 3 all pupils receive two x 1 hour PE lessons per week. All lessons are taught by Physical Education specialists and we follow a broad and well balanced programme. All activities are based around the new national curriculum.

Key Stage 4 (Current Year 11)

In Year 11 all pupils receive a minimum of 1 hour of Physical Education per week. All activities are based around the new national curriculum. Pupils can opt for an extra hour of PE in the enrichment programme, and GCSE pupils have an extra 3 hours on top of that.

We run a very successful GCSE Physical Education option - we follow the AQA syllabus.

Key Stage 4 (Current Year 10)

In Year 10 all pupils receive 1 hour of Physical Education per week and GCSE pupils have an extra 2 hours on top of that. All activities are based around the new national curriculum.

As with Year 11, pupils can opt to take part in our successful GCSE PE programme.

Extra Curricular Activities

There is a very wide range of extra curricular sport in school. These take place before school, lunchtimes and after school. We provide opportunities for pupils to compete in football, netball, basketball, hockey, x-country, rugby, badminton, indoor athletics, volleyball, boxing, table tennis, rounders, trampolining, athletics, tennis and cricket.

We participate in many inter school competitions and we have our own extensive interform sports competition too.
