Careers Information for Staff
As staff, we recognise the importance of providing accurate, impartial and up-to-date careers information so that pupils are well prepared for their next steps beyond Bury CE High School. This is a shared responsibility and forms a key part of our commitment to raising aspirations, supporting social mobility, and preparing pupils for the changing world of work.
Careers education at Bury CE High School is delivered through a whole-school approach, as outlined in the CEIAG Policy, with careers learning embedded across the SHINE curriculum, Personal Development, enrichment, and subject teaching. All staff play an important role in helping pupils understand how their learning links to future pathways and opportunities.
As a school, we actively develop and maintain strong links with colleges, universities, training providers and employers to enhance the experiences we offer and ensure pupils have meaningful encounters with education, employment and training pathways. Subject areas are encouraged to support this by highlighting relevant career pathways, labour market information, and real-world applications within their curriculum.
The information and resources below are designed to support staff in delivering high-quality careers education in line with the Gatsby Benchmarks and our CEIAG Policy.
What This Means for Classroom Teachers
All classroom teachers play an important role in supporting careers education and guidance at Bury CE High School. In line with our CEIAG Policy, this means:
-
Making links between subject content and careers, helping pupils understand how their learning connects to real-world roles, industries and pathways
-
Using relevant labour market information (LMI) where appropriate, including emerging industries and local, regional and national employment trends
-
Promoting ambition and aspiration, while challenging stereotypes and ensuring equality of opportunity for all pupils
-
Signposting pupils to further support, including careers events, employer encounters and one-to-one guidance with the Careers Adviser
-
Supporting key transition points, such as Year 9 options and post-16 decision-making in Year 11
-
Contributing to a whole-school culture of careers awareness, by reinforcing positive attitudes to employability, resilience and future planning
Staff are supported in this role through access to careers resources, CPD opportunities, and guidance from the Careers Leader and departmental Careers Champions. This ensures careers education is embedded consistently across the curriculum and supports pupils in making informed, aspirational choices about their futures.
